Early Childhood Special Education
Belton School District offers one of the most innovative and highly regarded ECSE programs in the state of Missouri. We are proud to provide a variety of classroom settings and a wide spectrum of services to meet each child’s unique needs.
Our classrooms focus on children learning primarily through play and exploration of their environment while engaged in relationships with peers and responsive adults. We encourage students to develop curiosity, creativity, active problem solving, imagination, self-awareness, positive socialization, and respect for each other and our world.
INTEGRATED CLASSROOMS
These classrooms provide both early childhood general education and special education within the same setting. There is no cost to participate in this program. Enrollment for general education spots in these classrooms is determined by preschool screenings (held in the spring preceding each school year) and other eligibility factors. Placement in special education spots in these classrooms is determined by a student's Individualized Education Plan (IEP). These classrooms are typically staffed by one early childhood special education teacher and two paraprofessionals. Related service providers (such as OT, PT, and Speech Language Pathology) may be present as warranted based on the needs of IEP students enrolled. These classes meet four half-day sessions each week and transportation is available for both general education and special education students assigned to these classrooms. Fee-based wrap-around care for special education students assigned to these classrooms may be available for $552 per month.
SPECIAL EDUCATION CLASSROOMS
This program offers special education to children three to five years of age, in a smaller class size. Individualized Education Plans are developed for qualifying students at no cost to parents. Qualifying students exhibit significant developmental delays and may have specific medical/ health diagnosis or concerns. Students may be referred for special education by parents, parent educators, or teachers. These classrooms are typically staffed by one early childhood special education teacher, and typically 2 paraprofessionals, as appropriate. Classes typically meet four half-day sessions each week and students attend according to their Individual Education Plan (IEP), taking into consideration the goals, services, and minutes included in each child’s plan. Transportation and other related services may be provided. Fee-based wrap-around care may be available for $552 per month.
